In a world where social expectations and norms are central, living with a mind that is neurodiverse can be stressful and daunting. It can also be beautiful and rewarding.
Many different therapies exist for individuals who identify as being on the Autism Spectrum. Common interventions include behavioral, developmental, educational, pharmacological, occupational, and psychological therapies. These are all valuable, helpful, and wonderful interventions if implemented well! Yet at times, these interventions have left some people confused at best, traumatized at worst.
At Inclusive Minds Counseling, I offer something a bit different. Here, you will find a gentle relational approach. In addition to emotional safety and genuine acceptance, my diverse background and training allows me to incorporate a variety of different therapeutic interventions to help those who experience their world through the uniqueness that comes with being neurodivergent.
Taking a strengths-based approach, these interventions include but are not limited to social thinking strategies, activities that increase motivation, interest, and abilities to participate in shared social interactions, skills to express ones own emotional landscape and ways to handle the unexpected in relationships. I take special care and consideration to ensure you feel understood, heard and celebrated. Together we will process what it is like to experience the world as someone who is neurodivergent and we will make meaning of your experience. I will listen attentively to your needs, offer alternative ways of communicating if needed, and work to help each individual feel less isolated or anxious. Our work will help you feel more connected and confident in social interactions, so that you can live a more fulfilling life!
