In my therapy work, I approach you with the understanding you are a whole person who is not a problem to be fixed or managed. You are simply living in a world not built for you. I believe you are the expert of your own experiences. My goal is to help you embrace your strengths and find adaptations for situations that do not align with how your brain or emotions work. At the heart of my practice is a strong respect for your autonomy and your ability to make decisions about what is distressing for you, and what is helpful for you.
Neurodiversity is the understanding that we as humans are beautifully diverse, and that includes our neurocognitive functioning. It has become normative for social structures to support a few types of cognitive functioning, leaving a vast number of neurodiverse individuals struggling. Many neurodivergent individuals have sought therapy and are labeled, dismissed or worse, have incurred trauma as a part of their experience. Here, that experience will be different!
